One of the trends for Spring 2010: lucid wear.  Designers are feeling transparent for Spring 2010; from head to toe literally.  Accessories from Patricia Von Musulin, Zac Posen and Sonia Rykiel trench coats, Fendi clutches, and Michael Kors pretty much dedicated his collection to the trend.  Kors has a pair of brogues I would kill for.

 Does anyone else remember when this, then considered a “fad”, was in a few years ago?  Plastic-like shoes were everywhere; when one would sweat they would stick to your feet and they often would turn yellow.  Louis Vuitton even had those transparent hologram bags.  This time around, it seems designers have invested more time; we’ve come to the point where the contemporary and bridge lines are adapting ideas from better brands and making them… well, better.  (no pun intended)  Lucid-wear can be tricky and sometimes tacky, but these garments are far from a disaster.  We all know designers grab inspiration from what’s going on the world- could this “plastic” surge come from everyone clamoring to ”Go Green”?  Who knows.  But I do know I’m not the only one asking how long this trend will last.

After debuting in 1998, Isreal born-New York based designer Yigal Azrouël started showing at Fashion Week the following year.  As he should; his designs are beautiful- classic, yet modern and innovative.  His men’s Spring 2010 collection features loose threads, leather vests, and extraordinary jackets.  Gray colours and stripe-schemes hit the runway; making it easy to go from beach to street.

For Women’s Spring 2010, the garments were similar to that of the men’s in terms of design shapes and hue, but more feminine.  Where a jacket is considered baggy on a man, it drapes on a woman; trousers look like his and her’s, and some garments proved that less is more.  Swimwear were cohesive with the entire collection and perhaps the influence for some of the tops (see below).  The architectural structure of his boutique in the Meatpacking district is as intriguing as the garments.  See the entire collection at Yigal Azrouël.com

While I’m out and about, I like to take pics of things I find; the main reason why I created a blog.  I collect all these images, yet I never have anything to do with them. 

Any who; was walking in the mall passing Bakers and something caught my eye.  In the past my knowledge of Bakers has been vague, but I noticed they now carry more brands that one would find at say, a Macy’s.  The little lovely to the left; gray suede upper, cream leather- cross straps and flower applique, peep toe, with a zip closure in back was what made me actually walk into the store.  Guess what brand they were…. *drum roll*… Dereon.

That’s right.  I honestly couldn’t believe it myself. The ready-to-wear line created by Beyonce and her mother in 2006 has left me disappointed.  However after seeing this shoe I got to thinking; could they have gotten the hint? Did someone whisper something in their ears?  If that person was me I’d say: “Hey B, maybe instead of going the Baby Phat route, perhaps you should think Jessica Simpson-esque.”  This shoe seems to follow that path (only in this color-way unfortunately).  For about $80, you can have the look for less.  Let’s make a whole fit of it:

 

Pair with this sweater dress from Forever 21 for $20 and a sweet little cardigan- and you’ve got yourself a lovely, fresh spring look.  ~C.M.

I don’t know what it is about Betsy Johnson.  Maybe it’s that crazy look in her eye, or the fact that everything she does just seems so over-the-top for me; but anyone who knows me, knows I don’t care too much for her clothes.  However, I did come across a few pieces as of late that were pretty decent.  Don’t get me wrong, Johnson has done some things I like, but it’s either too juvenile or stripper-friendly.

Johnson’s been in the fashion industry for years, but it seems she made a huge BOOM, coming out of no where in the early 2000’s.  Her designs are recognizable because of the hot-pink and leopard signatures that appear in garments; either small or large, from garment tags to shoe bottoms.  Ms. Johnson also contributed to writer Carrie Borzillo’s “Cherry Bomb”- an essential guide to basically being an awesome chick.   Could this Cherry Intarsia dress to the left have be an inspiration to Betsy?

Here are a few more that caught my eye.  Seems a little prom/homecoming-ey, but you gotta love a strapless with a full skirt. ~C.M.


This is one of my faves.  Simple, but screams “fun night at a party”

Drooling over these Chloe lace-up ankle boots.  For Spring 2010, Chloe’s collection featured a lot of browns, creams, and whites- including the high-top wedge.   No seriously.  They need to be in my closet, I can literally see them on my feet.




Perfectly paired with this Spring runway look- I’d call it a day.

This year designers have been coming out with numerous variations of the jumpsuit, one piece. In the past, jumpsuits have been seen as catsuits and often times considered a fashion faux pas. However, times have changed- as well as fabrics and styles used to make these pieces.

Badgley Mischka had a few floating down their runway for Resort & Spring 2010, proving a jumpsuit can be elegant and sexy. With this trend, it’s all about the fabric and fit when choosing what looks best for you.

Renowned designer Yohji Yamamoto gained his inspiration from soccer and the World Cup for Y-3, a collaboration with Adidas, Spring 2010 collection.  There were pieces representing Jamaicia, Japan, Brazil, and the like represented on the cat-walk .  Tailored jackets were paired with loose pants for both men and women; athletic wear with a twist.
Soccer balls and soccer cleats were a few of the props used, but the most important element that stood out to me were the netted pieces.  Using the “movement of the net after making a goal” (Yamamoto) as his fuel, Yamamoto draped some as dresses, scarves, and long tops. From the look of it at first, you may think, “fish-net?”, but it’s so much more.~C.M. young and modern line

Where the Wild Things Are November 2, 2009

Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke are the designers of the provocative label  Basso and Brooke.  Both from different regions of  the world, Basso- Brazil and Brooke- London; this duo oozes creativity!

Known for their illusive digital-print designs, Basso comes up with the prints and Brooke is the brain behind the designs.  For Spring 2010, Basso and Brooke produced some crazy dresses that were inspired by a “Jeff Koons” piece and portray “pure sex” walking down the runway ~Brooke.

The first thing that pops into my mind when I see the back drop are zebras.  The entire collection reminded me of the amazon, down to the slicked-back hair worn by the models.

If it’s one thing I love about Phillip Lim, and there are many things, it’s his dresses.  Down to the very last interlock stitch, everything is perfect.  Paying attention to clever details; open-back slits, exposed zippers, pleats, Phillip Lim knows a thing or two on how to design a fabulous dress.

For the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2010 collection, he plays with one of the seasons hottest trends: leather.  Who knew you could mix leather and silk and make a beautiful, graceful piece?  Lim knows how to create “the look”; from the accessories to the shoes, everything works.

These two looks are perfect for the professional woman: sophisticate enough for the job, but sexy enough for after-work cocktails.
